New Faculty Member – Barbara Klump

The behavioral ecologist Barbara Klump from the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior, received a tenure position at the University of Vienna with Thomas Bugnyar as host at his CorvidLab. Starting with 2023, she will conduct research at the Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology on the topic of “The interplay between cognition and ecology in extractive foraging behaviors”. Barbara Klump and her research team will focus on and compare the cognitive skills of the bird species carrion and hooded crows (Corvus corone and C. cornix) as well as the yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) when extracting hard-to-reach, “packed” food, such as nuts with solid shells.
